Superbowl 2009

It’s Superbowl Weekend! This Sunday is Superbowl XLIII. It’s the Arizona Cardinals vs. the Pittsburg Steelers. If you are anything like me, you want the Cardinals to win! I have never really like The Steelers (sorry Steeler fans) and I usually like the underdog. However, I am most excited about the Superbowl commercials. Companies spend millions on production and millions on one spot, so they usually aim to be very entertaining and memorable. Even with the economy this year and brands cutting back, I’m still expecting to see some pretty good ads and some creativity. Miller High Life got pretty creative this year running a 30 second spot prior to the game explaining the ads we will see for them during the Superbowl and why they are only 1 second. Check them out here.

So, everyone always has favorite ads : The Cindy Crawford Pepsi Ad , Budweiser Clydesdale Horses , Career Builder Monkeys, etc. Do you have a favorite ad I didn’t feature, let me know?

Below was my favorite ad from 2008, I can’t wait to post my 2009!

A Great Party and A Great Cause

Every year we host our Annual 80s party to raise money for a good cause. In past years we donated money to Cancer Research and Family Foundations, but this year we are donating all proceeds to a local mentoring group Cincinnat-US. All the money will go towards mentoring underprivileged children and giving them the opportunity to do things they usually wouldn't while teaching them important life lessons.

The party is always a hit and always sells out so get your tickets in advance. For only $20 you can dance the night away and enjoy an open bar!

It All Begins Tonight

It's finally here....the season Premiere of Lost! For those of you who don't watch Lost, I suggest getting into it quickly. You can rent the past four seasons or watch the four minute recap below.

It is definitely one of those shows you can watch with your significant other, because it has hot dudes and hot chicks...case in point is Sawyer for the ladies. In addition to eye candy it has love, explosions, fighting scenes, emotional scenes, drama, excitement and partial nudity :)

I've been a Lost fan since it first premiered. I absolutely love the idea of figuring out the theories, making the connections between characters and constantly wondering what is going to happen next.

Tonight should be very interesting as we are hopefully going to figure out why the Oceanic Six need to go back to "The Island" and maybe get some insight into what exactly "The Island" is. But knowing how Lost works, I'm guessing this episode will most likely introduce us to more plot twists and confusing story lines that we will have a hard time figuring out all on our own.

This is one thing I will warn you about if you decide to get into the show. It is impossible to figure out most of the time. You will think one thing and then the next episode they prove you wrong. The ideas on "The Island", time travel, life and death are much more harder to figure out than a Rubik's Cube.

So tune in tonight and get hooked...it's a great show and makes you think. I love reading a friend of mine blog before and after the show. He shares his theories and insights into things you may have missed during the show. The link is here, but it is also tagged as one of my favorite blogs.

A Day In History

Today is the day, Barack Obama is sworn into Presidency as the 44th United States President of America. It is a great day to be American and I look forward to years ahead of us. While I cannot say I have always been a fan of George Bush, he served our country and did the best he could along the way.

The torch is being passed and I am excited for "change" and ready for Barack Obama to lead our country. I am proud to be an American!

Massage Envy

A monthly massage is not only my treat to myself, but I think it is extremely important for people who are as physical as I am. I have gone to the same woman for years for my monthly massage, so much so that it’s almost like going to my hair dresser – she knows everything about my life and we talk about it as well as hers. With tip and all I spend around $80 a month for an hour long massage and stretching. I think it is worth it and so relaxing and invigorating for the body that I dream of the days I have one. With one coming up tomorrow, I wanted to review why I think a massage is much needed, a professional one. Also, if anyone is interested in the woman I go to, leave a comment and I can write you back with her information.

What is a Massage? According to WikiPedia it is the practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional, and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids.

Not only does a massage feel good, but it has many other benefits that can be felt almost immediately. Medial research has shown that the benefits of massage can include: pain relief, reduced anxiety and depression, temporarily reduced blood pressure and heart rate. In addition to these, it helps regulate blood flow and release toxins that build up in your muscles after intense workouts.

I am by no means a Doctor, but I believe in the benefits of a massage. I leave relaxed and have an hour of pure mediation in addition to soothing sore muscles. If you sit at a computer all day like I do, you will feel it the very next day. Tomorrow is the day for my first massage of 2009 and I'm excited!

Gatlinburg Fun Times

To ring in the New Year I went to Gatlinburg, TN with about 20 friends. We rented this really big house and just hung out all weekend. It was definitely one of the best New Year's I've ever had.

We played a lot of Left Center Right, which is the simplest game but so much fun when you play with $$$$. We also had an Olympic style competitive games night. We created a bracket with a points system to come up with the winning team. The prize was just bragging rights, but it was so much fun I highly suggest doing it with your friends. The games we played were: Wii Tennis, Wii Bowling, Foosball, Air Hockey and Jenga. My team came in second and I still had the best time ever!

I am going to have to say the worst part was the traffic. Warning: Apparently the traffic in Gatlinburg is always bad - I'm talking about an hour to move two traffic lights- YIKES!!! We still braved the traffic, went into town, rode go-karts, did glow in the dark putt-putt and ate at some cheesy restaurant. I begged Jim and other friends to do the cheesy old time photos, but no such luck.

Some people went out and hiked and others went for walks/runs, but it was definitely nice to just have some time away from reality.

My First NY Resolution Solved

So one of my New Year's Resolutions was to have 10 minute workout blast more often throughout the week. Luckily for me, we have created a program at SparkPeople that will help me do this. Everyone should join, it's simple, free, motivating, fun and you could win prizes (Unfortunately, as a SparkPeople employee I am not eligible to win, but still plan to participate).

The contest is pretty easy. All you need to do is follow the 10 minute workout video each day and do your favorite cardio for 30 minutes 5x per week. Do all that and you could win $500 cash, and iPOD or much more! Here is a link to contest details - SparkPeople New You BootCamp.
